Beyond the Single Image: Semana Santa

Join award-winning photographers Michael Robinson Chávez and Héctor Emanuel for an unforgettable photography workshop and journey to the heart of Andalusia, Spain. For five days participants will immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of Seville’s Semana Santa, the most visually stunning and culturally rich Holy Week celebration in the world.
This workshop provides a unique chance to capture the emotion, tradition, and atmosphere of southern Spain while sharpening your visual storytelling skills. Enjoy guided fieldwork, personalized mentorship, and the camaraderie of fellow visual artists as you explore the streets, processions, and spirit of this extraordinary region. Cobertura Photo, a renowned photographic center in Seville's historic center, will serve as our base as we help expand your vision.

Workshop dates: April 2-6, 2026
We recommend arriving at least a day prior to the workshop’s start on the 2nd.
April 2
Introductions, a review of photo work curated by Hector and Michael, and a discussion of goals and plans for the week. Photo walk through the old city, followed by a group dinner.
April 3, 4, 5
We spend the days and evenings photographing the pageantry of Semana Santa. Hector and Michael are available to assist and guide students in the field, with a daily midday break for one-on-one reviews, editing, and discussion.
April 6
The last day will focus on editing, sequencing a clear narrative flow, and preparing a showcase of student work for the final reception (with food and drinks!). We will all take part in the editing process since it’s often where students learn the most.
